It was approved on February 2, 1985, and ratified by the Andorran people in a referendum on March 14, 1985.
The Constitution was signed by the two co-princes of Andorra, the President of the French Republic, and the Bishop of Urgel, positions held at the time by François Mitterrand and Joan Martí Alanis, respectively.
The new Constitution stipulates that these two positions hold the title of head of state. According to the Constitution, the head of the executive branch is the head of the Government of Andorra.
