The tradition of the Estonian Song Festival began in 1869. It is part of the emergence of Estonian national consciousness. Today, the Estonian Song Festival is held every five years in Tallinn. More than 33,000 singers performed for nearly 153,000 listeners at the 2014 Song Festival. The joint choir is made up of 22,000 singers.
