🏛️ Testimony to revolutionary change
The Assignats began as interest-bearing notes backed by property confiscated from the Church, and evolved in 1790 to become legal tender. In 1792, with a shortage of metal coins, low-value notes (10, 15, 25, and 50 sous) were issued as a tool to revive the local economy.

From September 1792, banknotes incorporated revolutionary symbols such as the Phrygian cap, the fasces (fasces), the Roman eagle, and the words Liberté, Égalité, Liberté. Each piece is a capsule of the ideology that transformed France.
