Cook Islands, 5 dollars 2020. Viñales Meteorite. 1 Oz. Silver
Do you remember what you did on February 1, 2019?
The inhabitants of Viñales, a small town in western Cuba, sure do. Hundreds of meteorite stones rained down on the area that day. The meteorites could even be seen from the Florida Keys. In total 100 kg of extraterrestrial material was collected. So the Viñales Meteorite, the 2020 edition of this series (already number 16) can be considered a new meteorite, as it is one of the last official impacts.
This impressive piece tells a story. A story of how the meteorite, of which an original 2.5 mm part is embedded, has hit the ground. And to represent this dynamic impact on this 1 oz coin, we used the new possibilities of enhanced smartminting© technology. The crater starts at the edge of the coin and the ultra-high relief creates very realistic earth walls. The combination of proof, frosted and satin areas allows us to see what the people of Viñales experienced in February 2019.
Get a piece of the extraterrestrial meteorite embedded in a unique and exceptional coin. This .999 silver coin is limited to 2500 pieces and features a proof finish.
