Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus was born on August 1, 10 B.C. A Roman historian and politician, he was the fourth Roman emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, and ruled from January 24, 41, until his death in 54.

Born in Lugdunum, in Gaul, he was the first Roman emperor born outside the Italic peninsula.

He remained out of power because of his physical deficiencies - limp and stuttering - until his nephew Caligula, after becoming emperor, appointed him consul and senator.

The little action in the political arena represented by his family served him to survive in the various plots that led to the fall of Tiberius and Caligula.

In this last conspiracy, the praetorians who assassinated his nephew found him behind a curtain, where he had hidden believing they were going to kill him. After Caligula's death, Claudius was the only adult male in his family. This reason, together with his apparent weakness and political inexperience, led the Praetorian Guard to proclaim him emperor, perhaps thinking that he would be an easy puppet to control.

Despite his physical handicaps, his lack of political experience and inferiority complexes due to mockery since his childhood and stigmatized by his own mother, Claudius was a brilliant student, ruler and military strategist, besides being loved by the people and being the most powerful man in the known world.

His rule was one of great prosperity in administration and in the military field. During his reign, the frontiers of the Roman Empire expanded, due to the conquest of Britannia. The emperor took a personal interest in law, presiding over public trials and even promulgating twenty edicts a day.

In any case, he was seen as a vulnerable character, especially among the aristocracy. Claudius was forced to constantly defend his position by uncovering seditions, which resulted in the deaths of many Roman senators.

Claudius also faced serious setbacks in his family life, one of which could have resulted in his assassination.

His character achieved great fame with the series "I, Claudius" which narrated his personal stories.
