The RMS Titanic will always be remembered as the world's largest ocean liner, which sank on its maiden voyage, from Southampton to New York. The sinking of the Titanic caused the deaths of 1,514 of the 2,223 people on board, making it one of the largest peacetime shipwrecks in history.
The Titanic was the second of the three ocean liners that made up the Olympic class, owned by the White Star Line, and was built between 1909 and 1911 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast.
